Honour your kidneys with these top tips to banish those winter-kidney blues!

We all suffer that little low patch during the transition from summer sunshine to the darker days of winter! But try boosting your kidneys with some key yoga poses to ward off those winter blues and fight off those chills.

First of all – before you do anything, imagine your kidneys nice and warm. Either by visualising yourself in a lovely warm place, or even by placing a hot water bottle on the base of your back whenever you feel a little cold or just to give your kidneys some attention!

Yoga can help your body mind and spirit in many ways. But in general, a holistic yoga practice stimulates a healthy flow of energy and fluids around the kidney area, synovial fluid, lymphatic fluid as well as the production levels of blood and urine. Breathwork also helps to nourish the kidney area with fresh oxygen – flushing out out all the old stuff!

Certain postures put pressure on the kidneys can also help to flush and cleanse these organs. Add any twists, forward bends and backbends to your practice. And if you are new to yoga or don’t have a practice as such – just use your intuition… twisting your body massages the organs, and forward and back bends stretch and oyygenate this area… enjoy!

We especially love the legs-up-the-wall pose, Viparita Karani, with a hot-water-bottle firmly placed at the base of your spine to warm the little kidney friends from behind.

And don’t forget your diet… There is more and more evidence to suggest the link between the ‘superfoods’ and their antioxidant properties to keep us healthy. Pack your winter diet full of these key items to keep your kidneys smiling… red peppers, garlic, onions, apples, berries, berries and more berries, grapes, cabbage, cauliflower, fish and egg whites!

Do you believe that you can do most things in your job/work/role better than anyone else can?   Or does this come from a fear of failure…. Of being responsible for things “going wrong” (or of someone else doing them…. even better?)

When we are passionate about what we are creating and doing this spirit-infused energy carries along in the rapids of the initial rushes of enthusiasm.  Yet, when the first flush of fulfillment subsides, the calmer waters also encourage us to look for the next growth destinations.

Is there the time, the space and the cash-flow to do it?  Often we just do it ourselves at this stage, rather than engage the service and energy of another.  So we flow on… putting in more and more time, love and energy to compensate as the river of abundance widens. And what happens?

7 steps for delegating for stress-free success

1.     Write a list of the parts of your work, your business, your life-career that you love doing, being and creating

2.     Write down all the tasks and responsibilities that frustrate you, that you do less than well, that you feel drain your energy

3.     Reflect on 2. And look at the time/hours a week that this currently takes

4.     Ask yourself – how much is THIS worth to me?

5.     If I have this time and energy back for myself, how much more

6.     And now, check within yourself, do you have any resistance to letting go?

7.     Describe the qualities of the perfect person, to assist you in successfully filling this role.

As an entrepreneur myself, a Life and Wellness Coach, Yoga Teacher and Wellbeing specialist….  I should be able to manage my life perfectly…. Right?  Well…. That would be in a life that never grows, or moves forward in anyway. Whenever there is motion, there is growth and evolution and change.  This naturally creates new stresses and tensions as the opportunities arise.   New tasks and challenges  mean that every once and a while, we all need to sit down, to Just Stop! and to reflect, with the help of a professional coach, or trusted mentor or teacher, to map out our life and take stock of what really matters to feel purposeful and passionate about what we are doing.
